The leaning tower and walls of this large late medieval church in Bristol survived bombing during the Second World War. Temple Church is so called because the original church here was built by the Knights Templar, the medieval military order founded to protect pilgrims to the Holy Land. Their round church was later replaced with a more spacious rectangular one, and the shape of the first church is marked out in the ground.
The graveyard is now a public garden.

Bristol Light Festival
From the 2nd to the 11th February Temple Church will be participating in the Bristol Light Festival. The light festival showcases the city at its brightest, bringing fun and colour to the city centre. More information on the festival can be found by visiting Homepage - Bristol Light Festival . Please note that during these dates the Church will be open evenings only between 5pm and 10pm.
Before You Go
Access: The church is open 10am - 4pm daily. The surrounding garden path is suitable for wheelchairs. Temple Church will be closed to the public on the following days, 23rd,26th, 27th, 28th, 31st August and 2nd,3rd and 4th September 2023
Parking: There is charged on-street parking within five minutes of the site. The Church is also an easy walk from the city centre and Temple Meads station. View details.
Dogs: Dogs on leads are welcome.
