    There are approximately 20 spaces (shared with Upnor Village) located 200 metres from the entrance to the site. Visitors will need to cross a quiet village road to access the High Street, before walking down a cobbled street to reach the castle. Parking is free of charge. Coach and minibus parking is available in Lower Upnor. There is an additional car park located in Lower Upnor, should it be required by visitors.

    Although there is no café on site, the shop sells a selection of snacks including cold drinks and ice-cream.

    You are welcome to bring a picnic to eat in the grounds; benches are available on the site.

    The on site shop sells a selection of English Heritage gifts and themed souvenirs, as well as ice-creams, drinks and snacks.The shop is located in the ticket office. Visitors should be aware that access is via a small number of steps.

    Civil Weddings

    Wedding ceremonies (lasting approximately 30 minutes) can be held in the Upper Magazine. The castle is still open to the public throughout the hire period (3.5 hours) and free audios are given out to visitors an hour before the ceremony is due to start.

    English Heritage welcomes all photographers to our sites and we hope you will share your pictures with us on Flickr and Facebook.

    We do have some restrictions at certain locations, so if photography is your main reason for visiting, please call the site ahead of your visit to check if any parts of the site are restricted.

    English Heritage does not permit drone flying from or over sites in our care, except by contractors or partners undertaking flights for a specific purpose, who satisfy stringent CAA criteria, have the correct insurances and permissions, and are operating under controlled conditions.
