One of the largest, most impressive and most accessible Neolithic chambered tombs in Britain. Built in around 3650 BC, it was used for a short time as a burial chamber, nearly 50 people being buried here before the chambers were blocked. Part of the Avebury World Heritage Site.
West Kennet Long Barrow is in private ownership and in English Heritage guardianship. It is managed by The National Trust on behalf of English Heritage, and the two organisations share the cost of managing and maintaining the property.

Before You Go
Parking: Free parking is available in the lay-by signposted on the A4.
How to Find it: There is a half mile walk uphill across farmland signposted from the lay-by to the barrow.
Please note: There is an unguarded drop from the top of the barrow above the entrance.

Plan a Great Day Out
The best way to explore Avebury and its various sites is on foot. You should wear appropriate footwear and prepare for the weather.
Begin your visit at the Alexander Keiller Museum to find out about the six sites within the care of English Heritage and their significance, including Avebury Stone Circle, West Kennet Avenue, The Sanctuary, Windmill Hill and Silbury Hill.
Toilets and a cafe are available near the museum in Avebury.
