Facilities at Yarmouth Castle

  • Parking

    Car park is less than 5 minutes walk, across the road adjacent to the Wightlink ferry. Visitors have to cross a busy road to access the site. Pay and display' car park (coin operated). Not managed by English Heritage. There is some limited free car parking in the town but with a maximum of 1 hour stay.
  • Food And Drink

    The Castle sits right in the center of Yarmouth town, where an excellent variety of great cafe's and restaurants are available.

  • Picnic Area

    This is a great place for a picnic, as the site has incredible uninterrupted views over the Solent and Yarmouth harbour. A picnic bench is available on the gunners platform.

  • Shop

    The on site shop, situated on the ground floor, sells a selection of Yarmouth Castle souvenirs and English Heritage gifts including toys, books and snacks. We also sell some local products along with chutneys, jams, wines and spirits.

  • Toilets

    No toilet facilities on site. Public toilets less than 5 minutes walk away, next to the pier.
  • Exhibition

    Displays inside the castle include atmospheric recreations of how the rooms were used in the 16th century, and an exhibition about the many wrecks which occurred in ‘Yarmouth Roads’, the treacherous stretch of sea which the castle overlooks. Exhibition located on the first floor, currently no disabled access.
  • Gardens

    Incredible uninterrupted views over the Solent and Yarmouth harbour. Some room to run around - but please beware of uneven ground.

    Upstairs above the Tudor Dining Room is a children's room containing books and some Tudor games and toys.

    Push Chairs Allowed

    Due to narrow stairs pushchairs are limited to the ground floor.
  • Please Be Aware

    Take care crossing the road outside to gain access to the site. There are 10-15ft drops off the side of the Castle. Barriers and railings are in place. A 'please take care not to have accidents' sign is in place.

We do have some restrictions at certain locations, so if photography is your main reason for visiting, please call the site ahead of your visit to check if any parts of the site are restricted. English Heritage does not permit drone flying from or over sites in our care, except by contractors or partners undertaking flights for a specific purpose, who satisfy stringent CAA criteria, have the correct insurances and permissions, and are operating under controlled conditions.
