Join us this weekend at Carlisle Castle as we step back in time to life in WW1 and WW2. Meet those at the front line, from WW1 medics to the unsung heroes of D-Day, and hear their stories from times gone by. Children can also sign up with our Recruitment Sergeant to see if they have what it takes to join the British Army and fight for King, Country and Empire!

11.00am, Home Guard
Become a member of the Home Guard and find out how you can stop a German tank using nothing more than household implements! Volunteers may be required!

11.30am, Unsung Heroes of D-Day
Uncover the amazing stories behind the greatest military operation of WWII.

12.00pm, Recruiting for King, Country and Empire - 1914
Take the Kings shilling and be drilled by the recruitment Sergeant!

12.30pm, WW1 Medic - What happens if I get wounded?
Find out how wounded soldiers were recovered from the battlefield and treated in the Great War.

1.00pm, The D-Day Paratrooper
Find out about Britain's airborne forces in World War II.

1.30pm, Home Guard

Take the Kings shilling and be drilled by the recruitment Sergeant!

Chlorine, Phosgene, Mustard - what did they do, what did they smell like and how did British soldiers protect themselves?

3.30pm, Home Guard

4.00pm, Recruiting for King, Country and Empire - 1914
Take the Kings shilling and be drilled by the recruitment Sergeant!

4.30pm, WW1 Medic - Medical innovation in the First World War
Discover how the Great War drove medical advances which are still in use today.

Throughout the day…

Cumbria's Museum of Military Life
Visit the Military Museum to learn about life in WW1 in and WW2. You can also see the current Exhibition; Journey to the Raj: A Soldier's Life in India 1820 - 1947.

Living History areas
Visit the Living History areas to discover the equipment, uniform and firepower from WW1 and WW2.
