Spooky Woodland Walks - Frequently Asked Questions

We’ve answered some common questions to help you plan your visit. If you have a question that isn't answered here, please see our Visit FAQs.

  • Do I need to pre-book tickets to this event?

Yes. Pre-booking is highly recommended to attend our Spooky Woodland Walks as these events are highly popular and may sell out. You can find details on how to book on the event page. Please make sure you bring your booking confirmation with you on the day.

  • When should I arrive?

There is an allocated time on your ticket. Please arrive promptly, otherwise, you may miss your tour, as each walk/tour must depart on time. If you arrive late we will try and accommodate you on a later tour if we can but this will be subject to availability.

When you arrive, follow the signs or instructions from a member of staff directing you to the waiting area. The walk will last approximately 45 minutes.

  • Can we arrive earlier in the day for the event?

No. Our Spooky Woodland Walks are special events outside of our normal admission times. You are welcome to visit the site earlier in the day on days that we are open, but you will need to book a separate ticket and standard daytime admission charges apply. Please note that the site will close to the general public before the Spooky Woodland Walks begin. Any visitors on site will be asked to leave the property and re-enter for the event.

  • What should I bring with me?

This event takes place outdoors in the dark, so please bring a torch with you to use during the tour and wear comfortable, sturdy footwear.

We recommend you wrap up warm and bring additional layers.

There will be some atmospheric lighting placed along the walk route and our guides will lead the way.

  • Is the event suitable for children?

Yes, this event is suitable for families with children aged 5+. Under 18’s must be accompanied by an adult. We reserve the right to refuse access to the event to anyone under 18 who is not accompanied by an adult.

  • Is the event suitable for those with accessibility needs?

As this tour takes place outside, within our gardens and woodland areas, some of the route may be off of the main pathways and instead on grass and/or uneven terrain. It may be difficult to navigate buggies and wheelchairs over this ground.

The tour will take approximately 45 minutes and will have 3-4 stopping points where our guides will tell a story, each lasting approximately 5 minutes. Please also be aware that there is likely to be no seating on the route.

Accessible toilets and blue badge holder parking is available at our properties. Please check directly with our Customer Services team by calling 0370 333 1181 for further details of the route at each property.

  • Where can I go during this event?

A guide will lead you along the Spooky Woodland Walk. Please ensure you follow your guide at all times as other areas of the site may be poorly lit and potentially hazardous. Please do not attempt to cross any barriers or roped off areas.

  • What happens if it’s raining?

Wellington boots and umbrellas are advised in the event of wet weather. The Spooky Woodland Walks will only be cancelled in extreme weather conditions and this will be communicated to you in advance of the event taking place using the contact details you have supplied when booking your ticket.

  • Will there be food and drink?

There may not be refreshments at this event. We'd recommend checking with the site you are visiting and bringing a drink and snacks with you.

  • Please note

Our staff and volunteers will join you on the walk and can help with any queries you have.
