The ruins of a small artillery fort built in during the reign of Edward VI (1547-53). In 1651 it was garrisoned by Royalists during the Civil War.

Before You Go
Access: Perched on the hillside just north of New Grimsby harbour, the castle is only accessible on foot. The steep footpath winds across a heather studded hillside so sturdy footwear is advisable.
Facilities: There are no facilities in the vicinity of the castle.
Dogs: Dogs on leads are welcome.

Plan a Great Day Out
Refreshments are available from a well-stocked shop just south of New Grimsby harbour.
Walk down to Cromwell's Castle, standing on the promontory below. Both castles, along with the Old Blockhouse on the east side of Tresco, can be included on a six mile circular coastal walk around the island.
