Stone Circle Experience Terms and Conditions

For the purposes of these Terms and Conditions, “English Heritage” means The English Heritage Trust, a charity caring for the National Heritage Collection of more than 400 historic properties and their collections. The English Heritage Trust is incorporated and registered in England and Wales with company number 07447221 and charity number 1140351 and whose registered office is at Engine House, Firefly Avenue, Swindon, SN2 2EH.

Stonehenge is protected under the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Areas Act 1979 (“the Act”) and the Stonehenge Regulations 1997 (“Regulations”). You must adhere to the regulations outlined in the Act and Regulations or you may face criminal prosecution. No person may touch, lean against, stand on or climb the stones, or disturb the ground in any way. No equipment can be attached to, leant on or supported by the stones. 

By making any payment towards your booking you indicate you have read and accepted these terms and conditions for yourself and all members of your party. 

1. Payment

1.1. If your booking is for 14 people or less, full payment will be required within 7 days from when the booking was made.

1.2. If your booking is for 15 people or more, a non-refundable deposit of 50% of the total cost of booking is required at the time of booking, with the balance due no later than one month prior to your visit date.

1.3. If the date of your visit is within 14 days from when the booking is made, then full payment will be required immediately.

1.4. Failure to pay in line with these terms and conditions will result in your booking being cancelled.

1.5. All exclusive bookings that are made where capacity is not met by the operator will be charged for 30 adult tickets 

2. Amending and Cancelling of Bookings

2.1. You may cancel your booking at any time but you will remain liable for the full balance of the booking once full or part payment has been made. No refund will be given of any money paid towards the total cost of your booking. Changes cannot be accepted within one month of your booking.

2.2. English Heritage reserves the right to cancel any time up to the time of your booking and will not be held liable for any costs incurred. In these unlikely circumstances English Heritage will endeavour to offer a suitable alternative date. If no such alternative is agreed English Heritage will refund, in full, all money received by us for the booking. English Heritage will not otherwise be liable for any loss incurred by you as a result of the cancellation.

3. Extreme Weather

3.1. In cases of extreme weather either leading up to your visit or beforehand (eg. heavy rain, snow fall etc.) access to the Stone Circle may be restricted and in some cases your visit may be cancelled. Should we cancel we will endeavour to accommodate you with an alternative mutually acceptable date. Should no alternative mutually acceptable date be available then English Heritage will refund in full all money received by us from you in respect of the booking.

4. Liability and Behaviour

4.1. English Heritage accepts no liability for any damage to property, arising in any way whatsoever whilst at Stonehenge and entry is at the risk of the visitors. Entry is also subject to any written or oral warnings provided by English Heritage.

4.2. All visitors or company representatives (e.g. tour guides) must adhere to any instruction(s) given by English Heritage staff or their representatives regarding the use of the monument prior to and during access. The applicant will be required to pay the reasonable costs of any damage caused or legal proceedings may be brought against them.

4.3. We remind you to remain respectful to others at all time. Any form of harassment towards other individuals will not be tolerated. 

4.4. Any breach of these Terms and Conditions, may result in any individual or group being asked to leave the site by security without notice or refund.

4.5. It is your responsibility to dress appropriately for the outdoors and the prevailing conditions and your attire should be inoffensive and in particular not contain any political slogans or indecent images. Nudity or other indecency is not permitted. 

5. Items permitted / not permitted (this list is not exhaustive)

We request that you have contacted the bookings team to confirm any items you are planning to bring to site, excluding small hand-held cameras and phones. Permitted items include:

5.1. Tripods for personal photography but if used then boarding or matting must be used to protect the ground.

5.2. Small handheld acoustic instruments are normally permitted, but no amplified music.

Items that are prohibited include:

5.3. Oil based substances, incense, candles or any other sources of naked flames

5.4. Glass bottles and containers of any type

5.5. Large bags and backpacks

5.6. Eating, drinking or smoking (including vaping or ecigarrettes) are not permitted at any time inside the stone circle, anywhere in the Monument field or on the visitor shuttle which takes you between the visitor centre and the stone circle. 

6. Use of and Access to

6.1. Stonehenge is not a licensed venue for wedding ceremonies and should under no circumstances be promoted or used as such.

6.2. No dogs or other animals are allowed beyond the main entrance point (except registered assistance dogs).

6.3. Drones must not be flown over the monument field without permission in writing from English Heritage. Drone flying is never permitted over the monument itself.

6.4. No cremated remains are permitted to be scattered on any part of the Monument, the surrounding Landscape or within the Stone Circle. 

7. Photography, Filming and Commercial Purposes

You are welcome to take photos and short videos for personal use only. You may share photos on social media, but data protection consideration should be given to others who may feature within the images.

7.1. Unless you have prior permission in writing from English Heritage, you must not take photos or film at Stonehenge for commercial and/or promotional purposes either for you as an individual or for any organisation. This includes the selling of images directly or via a third party service. If you are found to be doing this it may lead to legal proceedings against you for breach of intellectual property rights.
