Tunnels at Dover Castle

Meet Cold War expert Mark Bennett and Senior Curator Rowena-Willard Wright, who will set the scene describing Britain’s first reaction to the new nuclear threat after Second World War, building up to the Cuban missile crisis and the creation of Regional Seats of Government, using original Civil Defence films and photographs held in the archive at Dover Castle.  Enjoy a special tour of Dumpy level which is not open to the public, and hear how it would have been set up in the 1960s.

Light refreshments are included and will be served at the start of the event.

This event has challenging access; there are a number of steps involved in the event and attendees will be required to sign a disclaimer stating that they are able to ascend these stairs in the event of an emergency. Please note that this tour will take place in tunnels beneath Dover Castle. Anyone who suffers from claustrophobia should speak to English Heritage prior to booking tickets.
