Come and get ready to take cover as this action packed bank holiday weekend propels you into wartime Britain. Fall into step as we teach you how to be a soldier, put on your dancing shoes for 1940s music, fashion and food, dig for victory and see the spectacle of wartime assault.
Meet our Local Defence Volunteers, who stood ready to report on enemy invasions, and learn how to stop tanks with everyday household objects. Have a go at using 1938 and 1939 Air Raid Precaution training manuals and see if you’ve got what it takes to become an Air Raid Warden. Could you keep calm and rescue a baby from a bombed house?
Take a look inside our mansion house for a special display of the costumes from the well-acclaimed 2017 film, Dunkirk, including the uniform worn by Harry Styles. Listen to Dr Kate Vigurs tell you about the founding of the Special Operations Executive, the fall of France and the start of the Resistance. And let your little ones join the History Tellers to hear the amazing true story of the pre-war racing drivers who became secret spies in WWII.
Visit our US infantry camp to catch a glimpse of our impressive Stuart Tank and take a look around the US hospital. From meeting the British 1st airborne division and German 21st infantrie division to the kitchen maid dishing out meagre wartime rations, prepare yourself as you’re drawn into the theatre of war at Station 43.
From the sadness and injury of the battlefield to the make-do-and-mend lifestyle of the home front, join us as we tell the stories behind the battles that shaped the world as we know it.
