Unearthing Recent Discoveries at Birdoswald Roman Fort

DATE

Friday 25 Jan

TIME

10am - 1pm

LOCATION

Birdoswald Roman Fort - Hadrian's Wall

SUITABLE FOR

Adults

Join experts from English Heritage as we explore the recent discovery of the woman and child ashes at Birdoswald Roman Fort; leading experts to believe the site may have been more of a family location than previously thought. Our experts will discuss the excavation, research and conservation process applied to the recent discovery of the ashes, specifically looking at the general evidence for women and children on Hadrian’s Wall, what the excavation told us from the different items found, and the research process used in the process. We will also look at how the items are being conserved for future generations.  Enjoy light refreshments in the new tea room on site whilst having time to chat with our experts at the end of the event.

This event has moderate access; most of the tour will be given as a talk and therefore we will be seated however there the site in general has low level walls and grass which could be slippy when wet.
