The Creative Programme is English Heritage's national strand of arts programming, engaging with the National Heritage Collection. Each year, the Creative Programme will produce nationally and internationally outstanding artistic site-specific commissions and interventions at historic sites across England, attracting visitors, increasing visitor engagement, and strengthening our community relationships.
We will work with highly creative artists and makers and introduce both familiar and unexpected stories in compelling ways, helping to demonstrate the breadth of heritage encompassed by English Heritage's sites, and the ways in which they can serve as sources for creative inspiration. Drawing inspiration from iconic sites and hidden gems, the programme will employ visual art, music, theatre, literature, dance and other arts to bring England's stories to life.
As part of the Learning and Interpretation department, the Creative Programme Manager will contribute to English Heritage's interpretation of England's Stories, and contribute to building the Creative Programme year-on-year into a nationally and internationally significant programme, which not only supports the making of great art, but also makes a unique and significant contribution to England's creative and artistic ecologies.
The Creative Programme Manager will develop, manage, coordinate, produce, and deliver flagship site-specific national/international artistic interventions for English Heritage as directed by the Head of Learning and Interpretation at multiple sites each year. You will develop projects to grow the audiences for English Heritage's sites and collections, encouraging visitors to take part in heritage, seeking out creative, original, exciting and fun ways of delivering Creative Programmes that help 'bring history to life.'
We're looking for an experienced creative producer with strong networks who is well-versed in both the theory and practice of mounting successful and engaging visual and performing arts projects. You will be exceptionally well-organised, flexible, diplomatic and a great communicator. We're looking for someone who is passionate about bringing heritage to life and the role that site-specific participatory arts and performance can transform the experience of heritage.
You'll find it's a workplace like no other - taking you behind the scenes of these extraordinary sites and supporting you to share your ideas, inspire others and make a difference.
By joining us, you'll enjoy the rewards of a great team environment in inspiring locations, helping to make our site a wonderful place to visit. You'll also be joining our charity, which through our 400+ historic monuments, buildings and sites, brings the story of England to life for over 10 million visitors each year. We offer a competitive benefits package including a generous pension, 25 days leave a year and free entry to all English Heritage properties for you, another adult and up to 6 children (under the age of 19).
Interviews will be held over Zoom on Thursday 4 February 2021. Due to the limited availability of the interview panel it may not be possible to make alternative arrangements. The advertised salary is based on working in our London Office, the salary range will vary if another location is preferred.
