As an English Heritage member, every one of your visits helps us care for the historic places you love. To say thank you, we're offering one lucky member the chance to enjoy a very special gardening-inspired weekend away.

The winner will spend three nights at The Head Gardener's House at Audley End House and Gardens in Essex from 11–14 September, with exclusive access to the BBC Gardeners' World Autumn Fair and some extra treats for garden lovers along the way.

How to enter

You'll be entered automatically if, before 10 August, you:

  • Take out a new English Heritage membership;
  • Renew your membership; or
  • Visit three English Heritage sites and scan your membership card at each visit.

There's no form to complete and nothing extra to do – simply enjoy your membership as normal and you'll be in with a chance of winning!

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

  • 1. The Promoter

    1.1 The promoter is: English Heritage of The Engine House, Fire Fly Avenue, Swindon, SN2 2EH.

  • 2. The prize draw

    2.1 The title of the prize draw is 'Win a stay at Audley End's Head Gardener's House'.

  • 3. How to enter

    3.1 The prize draw will run from 00:01am on 19 June 2026 to 11:59pm on 10 August 2026 inclusive.

    3.2 To be automatically entered into the prize draw, you must
    • Take out a new English Heritage membership by annual Direct Debit before 10 August 2026
    • Renew your membership by annual Direct Debit before 10 August 2026
    • Visit three English Heritage sites before 10 August 2026 and scan your membership card at each visit

    3.3 The prize-draw winner will be selected at random by English Heritage. The decision of English Heritage acting reasonably will be final.

  • 4. Eligibility

    4.1 To enter the prize draw, you must renew or purchase any annual English Heritage membership by annual Direct Debit between the opening date and closing date of the prize draw, or visit three English Heritage sites before 10 August 2026 and scan your membership card at each visit. Any English Heritage memberships purchased or renewed after 10 August 2026 will not be entered into this prize draw. Any visits to an English Heritage site after the 10 August 2026 will not count towards one of your three visits to sites.

    4.2 The prize draw is only open to UK residents aged 18 years or over, excluding English Heritage employees or members of their immediate families or households. English Heritage reserves all rights to disqualify you if your conduct is contrary to the spirit or intention of the prize draw.

    4.3 The winner will be selected at random by English Heritage. The decision of English Heritage will be final.

    4.4 Any English Heritage memberships purchased during this period with cancelled payments will be removed from the prize draw. English Heritage will confirm payment of the English Heritage membership has been made before confirming the winner.

  • 5. The prize

    5.1 One winner will be randomly selected from people who meet the prize draw criteria.

    5.2 English Heritage reserves the right to substitute the prize for one of equal or greater value. The prize is as stated and no cash or other alternatives will be offered.

    5.3 Travel, meals, and any expenses not expressly included are excluded.

  • 6. Winner announcement

    6.1 English Heritage will contact the winner personally by 15 August 2026 using the contact details provided with the English Heritage membership purchase.

    6.2 The decision of English Heritage is final and no correspondence or discussion will be entered into.

    6.3 English Heritage will make all reasonable efforts to contact the winner. If the winner cannot be contacted or is not available within seven days, English Heritage reserves the right to offer the prize to the next eligible entrant.

    6.4 English Heritage does not accept any responsibility if you are not able to take up the prize.

  • 7. Limitation of Liability

    7.1 Insofar as is permitted by law, English Heritage, its agents or distributors will not in any circumstances be responsible or liable to compensate the winner or accept any liability for any loss, damage, personal injury or death occurring as a result of taking up the prize except where it is caused by the negligence of English Heritage, its agents or distributors or that of their employees. Your statutory rights are not affected.

  • 9. Data protection and publicity

    9.1 By entering the prize draw, you agree that any personal information provided by you with the prize-draw entry may be held and used only by English Heritage or its agents and suppliers to administer the prize draw, to process your English Heritage holiday cottage booking, passes to the BBC Gardeners' World Autumn Fair, and to contact you about your year's subscription to Gardeners' World Magazine.

    9.2 All personal data provided to English Heritage will be held and processed in accordance with the requirements of all legislation and regulatory requirements in force from time to time relating to the use of personal data and the privacy of electronic communications, including: (i) the Data Protection Act 2018 and any successor UK legislation; (ii) the UK GDPR; (iii) the English Heritage Privacy Policy; and (iv) the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 (SI 2003/2426) as amended.

    9.3 We will keep your personal data safe and secure. We will not share it with other organisations without your knowledge and consent, unless required by law to do so. We will keep your personal data only for the purposes of communicating with you regarding this prize draw. You shall have the right to withdraw your consent at any time. The withdrawal of consent shall not affect the lawfulness of processing based on consent before its withdrawal.

    9.4 By entering the prize draw, if you are a winner, you agree that English Heritage may make use of your full name, image, English Heritage membership type and county of residence for post-event publicity purposes on social-media channels, websites and in any other media and English Heritage publications without your permission or paying you anything. You may also be asked to participate in further reasonable publicity arising from the prize draw. You further agree to the use of your names, images and any video or voice recordings of you in any media in perpetuity, as English Heritage sees fit.

    9.5 English Heritage must either publish or make available information that indicates that a valid award took place. To comply with this obligation English Heritage will send the surname and county of residence of the winner to anyone who emails marketing@english-heritage.org.uk or writes to English Heritage Customer Services, The Engine House, Fire Fly Avenue, Swindon SN2 2EH (enclosing a self-addressed envelope) within one month after the closing date.

    9.6 If you object to any or all of your surname and county of residence being published or made available, please contact English Heritage. In such circumstances, English Heritage must still provide the information and winning entry to the Advertising Standards Authority on request.

  • 10. General

    10.1 If there is any reason to believe that there has been a breach of these terms and conditions, English Heritage may, at its sole discretion, reserve the right to exclude you from participating in the prize draw.

    10.2 English Heritage reserves the right to hold void, suspend, cancel, or amend the prize draw where it becomes necessary to do so.

    10.3 These terms and conditions shall be governed by English law, and the parties submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
