Writing Competition: Tell us a story for your chance to win!
Do you love creative writing? Do you think you could tell us a story in 500 words or less?
From St George to sea-monsters, medieval ghosts and buried treasure, England's history is filled with stories, myths and legends that help shape our understanding of our past and present. Be inspired by one of our historic sites this summer and create your own story for a chance to win some amazing prizes for you, your family and your school!

If you’re aged 5 – 14, we want you to write a story in under 500 words inspired by the myths, legends & folklore surrounding our historic places. Choose one of our sites as your starting point and get creative for your chance to win.

Win fantastic prizes
One lucky winner from each age category will win an illustration of their story, hand drawn by talented artist Clive Hicks-Jenkins, and their story will be professionally printed. They will also recieve a year's English Heritage membership for them and their family, and a hands-on expert-led learning workshop at one of our historical sites for them and their class!
Plus, one overall winner will get the top prize of a stay in one of our holiday cottages for them and their family!
How to enter
Write your story on our entry sheet, and email it to TellingTales.WritingCompetition@english-heritage.org.uk along with your full name and age, your parent’s name, address and telephone number. Please ensure you have your parent or guardian’s permission to enter and check the terms and conditions before entering.
If you’re a teacher entering for your class, please make sure each entry is written on its own entry sheet, and includes the child's full name, school name and year group.
Competition opens at 10am on 5 July 2019 and closes midnight on 20 September 2019. The winning entry will be selected by our panel of judges and announced on Friday 18th October. Prizes include an illustrated copy of the winning stories, a stay in one of our holiday cottages and a year’s family membership.
