Ghost Tours - Questions and Answers

We’ve answered some common questions to help you plan your visit. If you have a question that isn't answered here, please see our Site Reopening FAQs.

  • When should I arrive?

There will be an allocated time on your ticket. Please arrive promptly as each tour must depart on time. When you arrive, follow the signs or instructions from a member of staff directing you to the waiting area.

  • Can we arrive earlier in the day for the event?

No. Our Ghost Tours are special events outside of our normal admission times.

You are welcome to visit the site earlier in the day on days that we are open, but you will need to book a separate ticket and standard daytime admission charges apply.

Please note that the site will close to the general public before the Ghost Tours begin. Any visitors on site will be asked to leave the property and re-enter for the event.

  • How will you manage social distancing?

We’ve introduced new measures for everyone’s safety and this event has been planned to allow for households to socially distance from each other. Please follow any signs or instructions from our members of staff.

Hand sanitiser is available to use on-site and face coverings should be worn in any indoor spaces such as our shops and cafes.

  • What should I bring with me?

The events take place outdoors in the dark, so please bring a torch with you to use during the tour.

We recommend you wrap up warm and wear comfortable, sturdy footwear.

Remember to bring a face covering with you for any indoor spaces such as our shops and cafes.

  • Is the event suitable for children?

This event is only suitable for those 16+. Anyone aged between 16-18 must be accompanied by an adult.

We reserve the right to refuse access to the event to anyone aged between 16-18 who is not accompanied by an adult.

  • Where can I go during this event?

Our spooky guide will lead you along the tour. Please ensure you follow your guide at all times as other areas of the site may be poorly lit and potentially hazardous. Please do not attempt to cross any barriers or roped off areas.

  • What happens if it’s raining?

Wellington boots and umbrellas are advised in the event of wet weather. The Ghost Tours will only be cancelled in extreme weather conditions and this will be communicated to you in advance of the event taking place using the contact details you have supplied when booking your ticket.

  • Will there be food and drink?

There may not be refreshments at this event. We'd recommend checking with the site you are visiting and bringing a drink and snacks with you.

  • Please note

If at any point of the event you feel unwell please ask a member of staff or your tour guide for assistance. English Heritage reserves the right to refuse entry to anyone deemed to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Aggressive, abusive or disruptive behaviour will not be tolerated.
