A tour of the underground tunnels of Dover Castle, otherwise known as 'Dumpy', showing how contingency planning for nuclear war emerged from the dark days of the Second World War and the post-war reconstruction of Germany. The tour will explore what this meant for the first structures built to protect the UK government in the 1950s, and how the hydrogen bomb led to the construction of a nuclear bunker under Dover Castle.

This event has challenging access; there are a number of steps involved.
