The Great Tower of Rochester Castle is, at 125 feet, the tallest surviving castle keep in Britain and one of the tallest ever built in Europe. Though it lost its roofs and floors in the 17th century, it still survives remarkably intact, a testament to the lives of its inhabitants and the sometimes violent history of the castle.

In this tour, which will include both the Castle Gardens and the Great Tower, Jeremy Ashbee, Head Properties Curator, will reveal how painstaking documentary and archaeological research allows us to reconstruct lost buildings and features of the castle, and the ways in which they were used.

This event is graded as challenging access due to the steep and uneven staircases.

Both sessions are now sold out.
