For 500 years Carlisle Castle was the principal fortress of England’s north-western border with Scotland. This walking tour will explore how each of the castle’s 10 sieges developed, from undermining the walls in 1216 to early use of artillery in the War of the Roses and the gunpowder sieges of 1645 and 1745.
