Take a stroll around the Industrial village of Port Sunlight created by the Soap King - William Lever. In 1889 hear how he created for his workforce, three bedroom and four-bedroom houses with gardens back and front. These houses were built in the vernacular tudorbethan style, favored in the northwest of England with hints of arts and craft touches by some say 32 architects. Built in different blocks, no two blocks of houses are the same, which some have described as “ the Charm of irregularity”.
See how he built facilities for his workforce including, a church, two schools, a hospital, Dinning rooms, sports facilities including a gym and an open air swimming pool, hear how he created an industrial world Empire that still exist to this day in UniLever.
William Lever was an eclectic art collector, and he created the Lady Lever art Gallery, a hidden gem in the middle of Port Sunlight. After your stroll around the village, enjoy a highlight tour of this gallery that boasts the finest Jasperware Wedgwood collection in the world.
There will be limited rest points on the walking tour and may include some uneven terrain. Please were sensible footwear and dress appropriatley for the weather.
