Reculver Towers and Roman Fort
SUITABLE FOREveryone
Join English Heritage and the South East Kent Astronomical Society (SEKAS) at Reculver Towers & Roman Fort to safely observe one of the most spectacular astronomical events of 2026: a deep partial solar eclipse, with around 90% of the sun obscured from southern England.
SEKAS astronomers will be on hand throughout the evening with specialist solar telescopes and eclipse viewing glasses to view the eclipse safely. Reculver's North Tower will also be open during the event, giving visitors the opportunity to climb to the top and enjoy panoramic views across the North Kent coast.
Coinciding with the eclipse, the annual Perseid meteor shower is also expected to peak on the night of 12 August, making it a particularly exciting evening for astronomy enthusiasts.
Please note: Never look directly at the sun without appropriate eye protection.
SEKAS will have 100 pairs of eclipse viewing glasses available. Booking a free ticket guarantees you a pair of eclipse glasses, while any remaining glasses will be distributed on a first come, first served basis. Visitors are also welcome to bring their own certified eclipse glasses if they wish. SEKAS will have specialist solar telescopes available throughout the event, giving attendees the opportunity to take turns viewing the eclipse safely.
