The National Collections Group within English Heritage is responsible for all aspects of the stewardship, management and public understanding and enjoyment of the national collection of historic properties, artefacts and archives in its care.
The unique and remarkable roles available here form part of a new management team working within the Historic Properties Department.
Following a major restructure of our business, we are looking for experienced managers and leaders, with a creative and entrepreneurial eye, to join the skilled and committed team of existing managers, responsible for leading and developing the Historic Properties business.
It is already a very successful operation, growing visitor numbers, income and financial contribution consistently in recent years, but we now need to move on to the next level. In these roles you will need to effectively marry conservation, curatorial and commercial aspirations, and you will already have experience of running a customer-facing operation in the cultural sector, or in the wider leisure and tourism industry.
General Manager
These are key new roles, managing some of the largest and most complex sites within the English Heritage historic properties portfolio. As well as managing and delivering a world class visitor experience, you will be responsible for the management of a range of historic assets, which could include historic interiors and collections and complex historic buildings, landscapes and gardens. The roles vary in size and complexity.

Area Manager
These roles are responsible for the management of a collection of historic properties (up to 15 sites), primarily as visitor attractions, across a wide geographic area.
Area Manager London, covering 7 historic properties across greater London, including Eltham Palace, the Home of Charles Darwin - Down House and Kenwood.

Property Manager
These roles manage a single historic property, varying in size and complexity, but all rank as one of our top 25 sites in terms of visitor numbers or earned income.

Operations and Commercial Managers
These roles are located at some of our larger sites in terms of visitor numbers and earned income, and are responsible for the management and co-ordination of all aspects of property management and day-to-day visitor operations, or specifically commercial performance, with a particular focus on retail and catering.
Operations Managers for both Yorkshire and the Hadrian's Wall sites.
Commercial Manager for Dover Castle.

Site Managers
