Liverpool Shanghai Photomission

Liverpool is the only UK city with a dedicated presence at the World Expo 2010 in Shanghai with its own pavilion in the Urban Best Practice Arena. Liverpool won it's place at the Expo on the basis of how it has managed its historic built environment within the process of regeneration and is in the same arena as Venice, Pondicherry, Suzhou and Guangzhou.

English Heritage has had a special, focussed project in Liverpool since 2002 working to increase understanding of the historic built environment called the Historic Environment of Liverpool Project (HELP). As part of that project, a competition was launched earlier this year where members of the public could enter their digital images of their view of Liverpool to be included in a final piece to be shown at the Expo. The participants worked with professionals from Davies Community Films to produce the Liverpool Shanghai Photomission which you can see here on this site. The group worked with a Mandarin interpreter and adviser from the Confucius Institute at the University of Liverpool to translate everything that was being said - the end result is tri-lingual in English, Mandarin and.... Scouse!

The project is on show in the Liverpool pavilion at the World Expo until the end of October.
