May 1940: in just 10 tense days the country pulled together in an epic round-the-clock rescue mission which saved over 338,000 stranded troops from the beaches at Dunkirk.
Were you there?
If so, English Heritage wants to record your memories as part of a major project to capture first hand memories of this heroic event to mark the 70th anniversary of the ‘Miracle of Dunkirk.’
If you were a soldier rescued from the claws of the enemy, one of the team who masterminded ‘Operation Dynamo’, or if you played a part in the rescue, we want to hear your story. We’d also like to hear from relatives with accounts of those who served their country during these dark and dramatic days of war.
Launch of the Dunkirk Memory Box at Dover Castle
To mark this significant anniversary, English Heritage is unveiling a special video recording facility at Dover Castle, housed in a booth located within the Secret Wartime Tunnels complex, to capture your personal memories.
The Dunkirk Memory Box will be available for use from 28th May onwards, launched alongside a series of anniversary celebrations starting with our major bank holiday Dunkirk anniversary event, 29 – 31 May, and continuing into the May half term.
For more information on the project – or for those of you further afield who wish to get in touch – please contact Memories of Dunkirk.
Help us keep the legacy of Operation Dynamo alive.
