The North East Office is home to English Heritage staff members who are responsible for promoting and caring for the historic environment in the North East area.
Who we are and what we do
Our National Collections Group maintains, operates and promotes English Heritage's own sites and properties. Teams based in the North East Office are responsible for running sites in the national collection, marketing and estates management.
Our Planning and Conservation Department provide grants, planning guidance, support and expert advice to local authorities, private owners and other organisations responsible for managing the historic environment of the North East. Within this section there are three local service teams focusing on Development Management, Heritage at Risk and support for Historic Places. These are supported by a Business Team.
The office is run by a Practice Management Team which is also responsible for opening Bessie Surtees House to the public.
Training and Events Calendar
English Heritage helps to build knowledge, skills and capacity by providing training and events to help others to care for the historic environment. We also help to support and promote training and events provided by our partners. Details of forthcoming activities in the North East are detailed in our Training and Events Calendar.
