The North East Office is open from 8 am to 6 pm Monday to Thursday and from 8 am to 5.30 pm on Fridays. We are closed on Bank Holidays, weekends and between Christmas and New Year.
The North East Office is located in an historic building called Bessie Surtees House. Some of the rooms in this building are open to the public from 10 am to 4 pm, Monday to Friday.
The North East Office is home to English Heritage staff members who are responsible for promoting and caring for the historic environment in the North East region.
Our Visitor Operations, Marketing and Estates teams provide the expert advice and skills needed to maintain, operate and promote our own sites.
Our Planning and Development team provides planning advice, guidance and grants to local authorities, private owners and other organisations responsible for managing the historic environment in the North East region.
Our Outreach team helps to create new opportunities for people to experience the region’s heritage.
