In aiming to commemorate and draw attention to illustrious individuals and to notable buildings, English Heritage does not work alone. There are a number of well-established and successful plaque schemes in London which operate alongside – and are complementary to – English Heritage’s own.
Similarly, there are a great many commemorative plaque schemes elsewhere in England and the UK. The selection criteria they follow are not necessarily the same as those of English Heritage; for instance, some schemes are happy to commemorate persons still living, while others put up plaques marking sites of residences.
Information on plaque schemes in London and across the country can be found in these pages.
