Meet Roman Officer Centurion Maximus and discover what life was like on the frontier. Take on the role of a recruit and be taken through duties using drama and role play. Recruits will tour both inside the fort and the remains of the settlement beyond, using replica and real artefacts found near Hadrian’s Wall to find out about the lives of the soldiers and civilians who lived at Housesteads
Become history detectives and solve a Roman murder mystery! Two skeletons have been found buried at the fort and you must explore the possible murder suspects. Gather evidence in the form of clues by working in groups to explore various locations around the fort and following a trail. Using objects, try to piece together who has been murdered and a possible motive, in the process learning about life in the Roman army and fort, developing discussion skills and encouraging judgements based on evidence.
