Our policies

Here are some of the most frequently asked questions that we get about our policies for learning groups.

What is the environmental policy of English Heritage?

Read the English Heritage environmental policy statment which sets out its guiding principles for the care of the environment.

What is your child welfare and safety policy?

We will do our utmost to ensure that children are protected from harm while they visit our properties. We will do this by:

- Ensuring that our employees are carefully selected;

- Ensuring that all employees in contact with children understand the issues of child protection by being fully aware of this policy and guidelines;

- Taking all reasonable steps to ensure the health, safety and welfare of any child in contact with EH;

- Taking all reasonable steps to prevent any other staff member, volunteer or member of the public from putting any child in a situation in which there is an unreasonable risk to their health and safety;

- Taking all reasonable steps to prevent any other staff member, volunteer or member of the public from physically, emotionally or sexually abusing any child;

- Informing employees that they should report to an appropriate senior member of staff any evidence or reasonable suspicion that a child has been physically, emotionally or sexually abused.

What is your equal opportunities policy?

We welcome over ten million people to our properties each year and wish to widen their participation. This means that we take measures to improve access for the whole community and as far as reasonably possible, we will ensure that all properties are safe, accessible and welcoming for all our visitors.

It is English Heritage policy to:

- Provide and encourage opportunities for all to access, understand and enjoy the historic environment.

- Seek to understand the diversity of England's heritage and promote a more inclusive understanding of our past.

- Value and share an inclusive interpretation of England's heritage.

- Demonstrate that the historic environment contributes to positive change in the lives of individuals and communities.

- Promote good practice on equalities issues in the historic environment sector and actively engage with partners to encourage others to do the same.

- Positively promote equality of opportunity as an employer and a service provider.

- Ensure that all our activities as an organisation take into account the widest possible range of needs.

- Encourage a more diverse range of people to train for and join the heritage sector workforce in order to secure our shared heritage for future generations.
