- Who has produced Heritage Counts 2008?
Heritage Counts 2008 was produced by the Historic Environment Review Executive Committee, on behalf of the Heritage Forum representing all the major heritage organisations in England. The document has been edited and produced by English Heritage.
- What is the purpose of the report?
Heritage Counts provides the historic environment sector with the information and data needed to make policies and decisions. It also highlights issues which are particualry important to the sector.
- How often does the report come out?
Heritage Counts is published annually, usually in either October or November.
- What is the main theme of this year’s report?
The theme for this year’s report is climate change.
- What are Indicators?
Indicators are easy-to-use statistics that enable year-on-year changes in the historic environment to be tracked. There are set out under three headings; Understanding the Assets (the extent of historic assets and the information on them); Caring and Sharing (the condition of assets and the resources available to manage them); and Using and Benefiting (the economic, social and environmental benefits derived from active use of the historic environment).
- When is the next edition due out and what will it cover?
Heritage Counts 2009 is due out in the autumn of 2009. It will explore the impact of heritage and the historic environment on “place-shaping”
