Old Gorhambury House

Important Information: Conservation Project

Old Gorhambury is undergoing a major conservation project, to be completed early November 2008. During this time this Scheduled Monument will be clad in scaffolding and will  not be inaccessible to the public. We apologise for any inconvenience caused, but these works are essential in order to ensure that Old Gorhambury is appropriately maintained.

Old Gorhambury House is the remains of a once immense mansion built in 1563-8 by Sir Nicholas Bacon, Queen Elizabeth's Lord Keeper, and twice visited by the Queen. Its extravagantly showy twostorey porch survives, with parts of the hall, chapel and clock-tower.
