There is a high demand for our grants. This means we are not always able to offer a grant to every project which qualifies against grant scheme criteria. Applications for funding are assessed against our Grant Priorities as well as our scheme criteria.
Our Grant Priorities for different parts of England can be found on this page. These include the following national priorities:
National Priorities
- Significant elements of the historic environment at risk; and/or
- Activities that strengthen the ability of the sector to reduce or avoid risk to the historic environment by understanding, managing and conserving.
Our Heritage at Risk register shows all significant elements of the historic environment at risk that we are aware of. If you are considering making an application for a repair project for a site that does not appear on the register, you can check whether it qualifies by contacting your English Heritage local office.
As we are unlikely to be able to help all priority cases in any one year, we will focus on those projects where there is a realistic opportunity to achieve progress now. In some cases, we will be willing to help with project development work which will facilitate solutions for heritage assets at risk though we may be unable to help with major repairs.
We also need to be satisfied that you have explored other sources of charitable or public funding, for example from the Heritage Lottery Fund.
We review our priorities for grants periodically to ensure that we are responding to the changing needs of the historic environment.
