Archaeological Research

Silbury Hill

Excavations and archaeological research throw new light on our understanding of the historic environment and although much of our work focuses on English Heritage's sites, our expertise is also employed on a wider level.  Recent projects range from a major conservation project at Silbury Hill, Wiltshire to a rescue excavation of a Roman cemetery at Birdoswald Roman Fort on Hadrian's Wall. Research priorities are determined by the National Heritage Protection Plan.

Drawing on the Past

English Heritage has a strong tradition of using archaeological illustrations to help bring the past to life in our research reports and books and on the web to enthuse, educate and explain.
