A policy statement on the role of the historic environment in regeneration. The historic environment lies at the heart of our sense of place; and England's most attractive and distinctive environments have always been sensitive to their context. Regeneration needs to be done with equal sensitivity if it is to create better places and stronger communities. Understanding how places change, and recognising the significance of their history, is the key to successful and sustainable regeneration.
