A close-up of the gun-laying (GL) mat on the south side of Moor Lane at Cleadon, Jarrow taken on 27-MAR-1946. The GL mat was a raised octagonal network of wire which surrounded the battery's radar receiver. The radar's performance was improved by positioning the receiver at the centre of this wire mat.
