New exhibition of landscape paintings for Mount Grace Priory

English Heritage is delighted to host an exhibition of landscape paintings by Jane Thorniley-Walker at Mount Grace Priory near Northallerton.  Jane’s exhibition, which runs from May 1st until June 30th, is the second of a diverse series of art exhibitions, planned for Mount Grace in 2008, and is only the second professional exhibition by this emerging artist.  The exhibition called, Landscapes of the North Yorkshire Moors, features a collection of large-scale oils, pastels and watercolours, including some dramatic paintings of the Priory itself.

The collection explores the enigmatic qualities of the area around Jane’s home, illustrating the stark tranquillity, yet restless changes in weather, light and mood of the moor land and coastal landscapes.  The artist has been encouraged by a growing public appetite for art the expresses a real love for the natural environment; stressing that ‘artist should not apologise for producing work that is understandable or realistic’.

Mount Grace Priory is open Thursday to Monday inclusive 10am-6pm.  Admission prices are Adults £4, Concessions £3.20, Child £2, Family £10, EH and NT members are free.  For more information, about this exhibition and other forthcoming events at the Priory telephone 01609 883494 during opening hours.
