Roman Summer on Hadrian's Wall
Enjoy the largest ever programme of Roman events along Hadrian's Wall this summer. With action-packed events happening every week at English Heritage properties along the Wall, there are plenty of activities to keep kids and their families entertained this summer.
Children can step back in time to the Dark Ages at Birdoswald Roman Fort, try crafty Roman activities at Chesters Roman Fort, or meet a troops of Roman soldiers at Housesteads. As well as having a great day out, they'll uncover fascinating historical facts at all of these events, and learn a good few things to take back to the classroom in September.
The Roman Summer of events culminates in a gladiator spectacular at Corbridge Roman town in Northumberland on August Bank Holiday (Sun 24 and Mon 25 August) as the ruins of the Roman town play host to a weekend of Gladiatorial combat and equestrian skills. Visitors can cheer on their chosen gladiator as they go head to head in combat or for those who want a quieter time, they can check out Roman cookery, pottery, textile and games. For anyone fancying a lie down, they can always get involved with the burial demonstrations.
