Darwin's Study  To celebrate the 200th birthday of scientist and novelist Charles Darwin English Heritage has launched a brand new interactive website where you can explore his home; Down House.  See inside the infamous study where On The Origin of Species was written and get up close to some of his most important belongings and artefacts.

New Exhibition at Down House

The new interactive tour of Darwin’s study is just the start of the celebrations. A brand new exhibition, Uncovering Origins has been unveiled at the very home of Charles Darwin; Down House in Kent and is open to visitors now.

  • Explore the beautifully restored family home and the extensive gardens known as Darwin’s ‘Outdoor Laboratory’.
  • Retrace the steps of the great evolutionist around the house and grounds of his home with multimedia tours narrated by David Attenborough and Andrew Marr. 
  • Imagine life aboard the HMS Beagle in the brand new and full scale replica of Darwin’s cabin where he lived and work during his epic 5 year voyage.
