Clifford's Tower Calls For Help for Injured Gosling
A honk for help had Clifford’s Tower staff running to the assistance of an injured gosling at the Eye of York, before they called in the experts to rescue the wounded bird!
Staff noticed the injured gosling was struggling to walk round the Eye of York, and when one member of staff went down to investigate further, she realised that the gosling had been the victim of an accident which had left it with a damaged leg.
“The poor bird was really struggling to walk and looked to be in distress, so we contacted the RSPCA to help him out,” says Clifford’s Tower’s Becky Harrison. “They arrived very promptly to take him to Malton for treatment, but reckon it will only take a few days and a dose of antibiotics before he can come back and join his friends. The RSPCA Officers guess that he was hit by a car ”
Looking after birds seems to be a favourite pastime for English Heritage staff; the team at Mount Grace Priory near Northallerton have been on duckling patrol for the last six weeks to rescue any young birds trapped in the site’s drains and culverts!
