English Heritage supports 2.1km bored tunnel at Stonehenge

English Heritage has completed its formal review of the various road options put forward by the Government and has concluded that the published scheme, which involves the building of a 2.1km bored tunnel past Stonehenge and was approved by the Inspector after a Public Inquiry in 2004, is the only option that is acceptable. All other options are unacceptable because they either damage archaeology and the WHS or fail to deliver the aims of the WHS Management Plan.

We recognise that this is the most expensive of the five options being reviewed, but we believe it is the only one that would deliver the benefits that Stonehenge needs and deserves.
