Yorkshire: "Ghosts, Myths and Legends of Hull"

Filming at Hull Docks Filming at Hull Docks In 2005 a group of young people involved with the Creative Connexions programme in Hull worked in partnership with the English Heritage Outreach Officer to research and make a film for Heritage Open Days. Working over a number of weeks with artists and film makers they focused on stories of the cities historic past.

The group researched the stories and took film footage from around the city. They also found archive footage and interviewed the local historians at the Civic Society.

The stories ranged from tales of life as a trawler man in Hull, to ghost stories from some of the cities oldest buildings. The young people found out about the harsh realities of life at sea and where some superstitions still talked about today originated from.

The film was then shown over Heritage Open Days (September 8th – 11th) in Hull on the Big Screen in the City Centre. The people involved also attended a preview at Hull Screen with their friends and family.

The young people developed a greater understanding and appreciation for the heritage of their city during the project, and had the opportunity to be fully involved in the creation of a film which has been shown to the public on numerous occasions.
