The Battle of Hastings

East Sussex

There is one date in history that stands out above all others - relive the atmosphere and tension of medieval battle as over 200 soldiers clash in our annual re-enactment of the 1066 Battle of Hastings, on the very battlefield where it took place.

Step back in time and immerse yourself in medieval life as you stroll around the living history encampments and rub shoulders with medieval merchants selling their wares in the historic market.  The Norman Cavalry displays will amaze you and bring the fascinating realities of the battle to life.

Watch the skills of the chain mail and weaponry maker and take an entertaining look at the Bayeux Tapestry on a washing line!  Marvel at the medieval falconry and see if you have what it takes to be archer in battle in the have-a-go archery.  Children will love the chance to take part in the action and learn battle tactics in the popular and carefully orchestrated children’s mock battle.  It really is one of the best family days out in history!
