THE ENGLISH HERITAGE DIRECTORY OF BUILDING SANDS AND AGGREGATES

This directory was initiated to enable historic mortars on English Heritage sites to be matched effectively, using aggregates from currently available sources.

It includes details of sands and aggregates in the form of data sheets that have been categorised by county, colour and supplier in an easily accessible form. For each entry, the data sheet features the region and quarry of origin, as well as the colour, grading and mineralogy of the aggregate. The colour of each sample is determined using the Munsell colour charts.

A separate wall chart highlighting the different colours and grades of selected aggregates is also included.
