Free Sites Unlocked
Did you know that of the 400 sites that English Heritage looks after, more than 240 are unstaffed and open to the public at all reasonable times? There are some amazing sites to see – from the largest and most complex Iron Age hillfort in Britain to the little mausoleum built by Earl Grey to
house both his and his family's
remains.
Free Sites Unlocked is an
English Heritage project seeking
to improve the information
available about these free sites. We
are providing new site panels and
updating our webpages.
For some properties you can download a short audio tour, letting your iPod, mobile phone or mp3 player be your guide as you walk around the site. Each tour contains stories and interviews with experts, helping to bring these fascinating sites alive.
The Free Sites Project is partly funded through donations and bequests from the public..
Tell Us What You Think
Have you downloaded one of the new audio tours? What did you think of it? We would be interested to know whether you are enjoying these tours and would like to hear more of them in the future.
