Discover more about life in Tudor times before the reformation. What was life like for the rich and the poor? What was the abbey’s role in the local community? Explore how Henry VIII's divorce and the Dissolution of the monasteries affected the abbey at Whitby.

Pupils will meet Master Will, a Steward and Mistress Beth, housekeeper to Sir Richard Cholmley, a local landowner. They will guide students around the key areas of the abbey.

They will find out more about religion in Tudor times by handling relics; and discover how the dissolution of the monasteries affected the abbey. Pupils will explore what life was like in Tudor times and what role the abbey played in the local community.
