Meet The Butler

Where: Brodsworth Hall

Brodsworth Hall and GardensBrodsworth Hall Meet the Butler at Brodsworth Hall as pupils attend an interview for the position of Housemaid and Footman. What responsibilities did the servants have? What were the needs of the family? Through role-play and object handling, experience life in service and compare it with other Victorian occupations, whilst exploring the house.

Pupils meet David Chuck, the Butler at Brodsworth Hall in the 1870s. As interviewees for the position of Housemaid and Footman, the students will find out more about life in service. David will explain aspects of his daily life and children will be able to try some of his jobs. An activity session in the education room involves empathy and an opportunity to engage with the lives of those who worked at Brodsworth Hall through objects. Mr Chuck will take pupils on a tour of the servants’ quarters including the kitchen and bedrooms
