Old Gorhambury House

Old Gorhambury House
The porch after completion of repair work. General view from the south west (c) English Heritage

Old Gorhambury House is programmed to undergo a major conservation project. The works will commence at the end of July 2008 and will be completed by mid October 2008. During this time this Scheduled Monument will be clad in scaffolding and will not be inaccessible to the public. We do apologise for any inconvenience, but these works are essential in order to ensure that Old Gorhambury House is appropriately maintained.

Old Gorhambury House is the remains of a once immense mansion built in 1563-8 by Sir Nicholas Bacon, Queen Elizabeth's Lord Keeper, and twice visited by the Queen. Its extravagantly showy twostorey porch survives, with parts of the hall, chapel and clock-tower.
