Applying for Licences

Anyone wishing to be a licensee for a historic wreck in English waters, which has been designated under the Protection of Wrecks Act 1973, should complete the appropriate online form from the list in the menu on the left-hand side of this page and submit it electronically.

Alternatively, you can download the pdf version which can also be found from the list in the menu on the left-hand side of this page, fill it in and submit it either by email to:

maritime@english-heritage.org.uk

or via normal mail to:

English Heritage
Maritime Archaeology Team
Fort Cumberland
Fort Cumberland Road
Eastney
Portsmouth
Hampshire
P04 9LD

It will then be considered by the 'Advisory Committee on Historic Wreck Sites', who will then recommend to the Secretary of State whether or not a licence should be granted. The Advisory Committee may also recommend that certain conditions are attached.

If you need help with this application or if you would like to receive hard copies of the application form via normal mail, please contact the Maritime Archaeology Team at English Heritage, telephone 023 9285 6735, or email maritime@english-heritage.org.uk.
