Explore the castle grounds
Beeston Castle is a paradise for walkers, nature lovers and adventurous children. With over 40 acres of accessible woodland to explore you’re sure to have a marvellous day out. A circular Woodland Walk leads fairly gently downhill from near the outer baily gate. Winding around the base of the crag through wildlife-thronged woods, the path provides glimpses of the castle above, before reaching the sandstone caves. Sturdy footwear is recommended.

Chester Roman Amphitheatre
Distance: 14 miles
The largest Roman amphitheatre in Britain, used for entertainment and military training by the 20th Legion, who were based at the fortress of ‘Deva’ (Chester).
Boscobel House and the Royal Oak
Distance: 46 miles (1 hour)
Boscobel House conceals a turbulent history as the refuge of the future King Charles II who, on the run from Cromwell’s men, concealed himself in ‘The Royal Oak’ tree. Visitors can see the dairy, farmyard, smithy and gardens, and enjoy refreshments in the tearooms.
