The picturesque Cistercian abbey of Cleeve boasts the most impressively complete and unaltered set of monastic cloister buildings in England, standing roofed and two storeys high. They include the gatehouse; the 15th-century refectory with its glorious angel roof; an unusual 'painted chamber'; and the floor of an earlier refectory, decked from end to end with 13th-century heraldic tiles, the protection of which is the subject of an ongoing high profile English Heritage research project. The great dormitory is one of the finest examples in the country. Beneath it are the newly-vaulted warming room, and the sacristy with more early 13th-century tilework and decoration.

A new exhibition and virtual tour tells the story of abbey life, and the exhibition Our Painted Past illustrates wall-paintings from English Heritage properties around the country.

Access to abbey: Most of ground floor accessible either via 4 steps (in exhibition area) or via alternative route. Ramp access from grounds to church and cloisters; cobbles and gravel in courtyard. Upper floor reached via staircase, often accessible to ambulant disabled visitors with assistance. Wheelchair available on request. Many seats.
Grounds: All accessible on level surfaces - smooth grass, cobblestone and impacted gravel.
Parking:
70m from entrance, then 150m to admission point, via tarmac and cobbled entrance bridge. By prior arrangement disabled drivers may park 20m from admission point.
