Lincolnshire NMP

Lincs project location Cropmarks of enclosures, probably of a Roman settlement, at Hougham (NMR 12877/22)The Lincolnshire project was one of the early National Mapping Programme (NMP) projects, undertaken between 1992 and 1997. Air photograph interpretation and sketch transcription, at a scale of 1:10,000, was undertaken for the County of Lincolnshire but excluded the area of the Lincolnshire Fens.

All archaeological features visible as earthworks and cropmarks were recorded to a terminal date of 1945, with the exception of plough levelled ridge and furrow and indiscriminate extraction. A wide variety of sites were identified from Neolithic mortuary sites through to twentieth century military remains.

Lincolnshire's Archaeology from the AirMore than 4000 new archaeological records were created for the National Monuments Record and another 1000 were updated. Summary versions of these records are available online via the Heritage Gateway. Selected topics of research were published in a series of thematic articles in Lincolnshire's Archaeology from the Air R Bewley (Ed) 1998.
